Isaïa Cordinier (born 28 November 1996) is a French professionalbasketball player forAnadolu Efes of theBasketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) and theEuroLeague. He was selected by theAtlanta Hawks with the 44th overall pick in the2016 NBA draft. Standing at 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in), he plays at theshooting guard andsmall forward positions.
Cordinier started playing basketball at age seven, inVence. His father is from the French overseas department ofMartinique[1] and Cordinier lived in Martinique from 2006 to 2009. He later joined the youth academy ofSharks d’Antibes.[citation needed]
Cordinier made his debut on Antibes’ senior men's team, in theFrench second division, in November 2012, when he was 15 years and 11 months old.[2] During the 2013-14 campaign, he made his debut in theFrench top-tier levelPro A.
For the 2014–2015 season, Cordinier transferred to second-division sideALM Évreux Basket.[3] In 23 games, he averaged 4.9 points and 2.1 rebounds for Évreux.[4]
Prior to the 2015–16 season, Cordinier penned a deal with another second-division team,Denain ASC Voltaire.[5] In April 2016, Cordinier was selected to play in theNike Hoop Summit, where he tallied eight points, five rebounds and one assist, in 21 minutes off the bench.[6] Later that month, he declared for theNBA draft.[7] On June 13, 2016, Cordinier was one of 13 different international underclassmen (including one of four different Frenchmen) to enter the2016 NBA draft.
Cordinier joinedOlympique Antibes of the French top-flightLNB Pro A, for the 2016–17 season.[8] He made 30 Pro A appearances for Antibes in 2016–17, averaging 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds a contest.[9]
On June 5, 2019, Cordinier signed a two-year deal withNanterre 92 of theLNB Pro A.[10] During the 2020–21 season, he averaged 12 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals in LNB Pro A, along with 15.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals in theEuroCup, and was named to theAll-EuroCup First Team for the2020–21 season.[11]
On October 5, 2021, Cordinier signed a two-year contract withVirtus Bologna of theLega Basket Serie A.[12][13] After having oustedLietkabelis,Ulm andValencia in the first three rounds of theplayoffs, on 11 May 2022, Virtus defeatedFrutti Extra Bursaspor by 80–67 at the Segafredo Arena, winning its firstEuroCup and qualifying for theEuroLeague after 14 years.[14] However, despite having ended the regular season at the first place and having ousted 3–0 bothPesaro andTortona in the first two rounds of playoffs, Virtus was defeated 4–2 in the national finals byOlimpia Milano.[15]
On 29 September 2022, after having ousted Milano in the semifinals, Virtus won itsthird Supercup, defeating 72–69Banco di Sardegna Sassari and achieving a back-to-back, following the 2021 trophy.[16] However, despite good premises Virtus ended theEuroLeague season at the 14th place, thus it did not qualify for the playoffs.[17] Moreover, the team was defeated in theItalian Basketball Cup final byBrescia. In June, after having ousted 3–0 both Brindisi and Tortona, Virtus was defeated 4–3 by Olimpia Milan in the national finals, following a series which was widely regarded among the best in the latest years of Italian basketball.[18][19]
On 24 September 2023, after having ousted Olimpia Milano in the semifinals, Virtus won itsfourth Supercup, and the third in a row, defeating 97–60Germani Brescia.[20] Despite an impressive first half of the season, Virtus ended the EuroLeague regular season at the 10th place, qualifying only for theplay-in, where after having defeated 67–64Anadolu Efes, it lost againstBaskonia 89–77, not qualifying for the playoffs.[21] Moreover, the Black V placed first during the Italian regular season but, after having knocked outTortona by 3–2 andReyer Venezia by 3–1, it lost the third consecutive final against Milan by 3–1.[22]
In the following season Virtus ended the EuroLeague at the 17th place, after a disappointing regular season. After arriving first in the national championship season, Virtus eliminated Venezia 3–2 and their arch-rival Milan 3–1, reaching their fifth finals in a row. They then defeated Brescia 3–0, claiming the Italian championship title for the 17th time.[23][24]
On July 19, 2025, Cordinier signed a two-year deal withAnadolu Efes of theBasketbol Süper Ligi (BSL).[25]
Cordinier was drafted by theAtlanta Hawks, in the2016 NBA draft (2nd round, 44th overall, fourth of five Frenchmen taken),[26][27] and played for the Hawks in the 2016NBA Summer League.[28]
On July 13, 2018, Cordinier's draft rights were traded to theBrooklyn Nets, along with a future 2nd-round pick, forJeremy Lin and picks.[29]
In September 2021, the Nets renounced to Cordinier's draft rights, making him an unrestricted free agent.[30]
Cordinier was named to the French Under-18 junior national team that competed at the2014 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, in Turkey. He saw the court in nine games during the tournament, tallying 9.7 points, 5.6 boards, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steal per contest.[31]
Cordinier then joined France at the2023 World Cup, as well as at the2024 Olympics.

His fatherStéphane is a former professionalhandball player,[32] who represented France in the1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta[33] and won bronze at the1997 World Handball Championship. Isaia also played handball before turning to basketball.[citation needed]
