History

[edit]

IEI was established as a government company in 1972[1] in order to develop military materials for theIranian Military. IEI has developed a high potential in research and development (R&D) which is the technological backbone of the company. IEI is an amalgamation of different manufacturing plants and companies in different parts of the country. During the reign of ShahMohammed Reza Pahlavi, the company used the missile facility atShiraz.[5]

Following theIranian Revolution and the outbreak of theIran–Iraq War, Iran began to reorganize its industries to establish a war orientated manufacturing and research focus. IEI was a natural candidate to come under the supervision of the Defense Industries Organization, where it has remained since. The new generation ofIran's national reconnaissance satellites calledToloo (Rise) have been designed and produced by IEI in 2010.[6][7]

TheCEO of the company claimed in March 2025 that over 7,000 systems have been produced in different areas and delivered to the Iranian Armed Forces by IEI.[8]
