In Memory of ... is aballet in one act made byNew York City Ballet ballet masterJerome Robbins toBerg'sViolin Concerto (To the Memory of an Angel) of 1935 (written on the death of Manon Gropius, daughter ofAlma Mahler,Gustav Mahler's widow, andWalter Gropius), based on themes fromMahler, a Carpathian folk song, and Bach'sO Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort, BWV 20. The premiere took place on 13 June 1985 at theNew York State Theater,Lincoln Center, with scenery byDavid Mitchell, costumes byDain Marcus and lighting byJennifer Tipton. A recording aired onPBS'Great Performances: Dance in America in 1987.[1]
