Imogen Walker is a BritishLabour politician who has served as theMember of Parliament (MP) forHamilton and Clyde Valley since the2024 UK general election.[1][2] She is anAssistant Whip.[3]
Walker comes fromLanark[4] and went to school inStirling.[5] She attended drama school in London[4] and graduated from theUniversity of Edinburgh with a master's degree inmental philosophy.
Walker has worked as an actor, including roles inTaggart,Doctors andThe Big Read,[5] from 1999 to 2007,[6] a political consultant, and a vice president of theRSPCA, the animal welfare charity.
She also served as a ward councillor, deputy finance leader, and deputy leader (from 2014 to 2018)[4] for theLondon Borough of Lambeth.[7]
In the2024 United Kingdom general election Walker was elected as MP for the new constituency of Hamilton and Clyde Valley with a majority of 9,472.[8] Shortly after being elected, she was appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary toRachel Reeves,Chancellor of the Exchequer.[9]
In theSeptember 2025 cabinet reshuffle Walker was appointed to the ministerial position ofassistant government whip.[10]
Walker is married toMorgan McSweeney, former Chief of Staff to Prime MinisterSir Keir Starmer.[11] McSweeney used his position to aid his wife's selection as a candidate for the Labour Party.[12] They have a son together.[13]
