Imam Fassi

Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Fassi (commonly known asQutbul Ujud Imam Fassi) (Arabic:محمد بن محمد الفاسي;1760?–1863)[1] was the originator of theFassi family of Sheikhs who constitute the Fassiyatush ShadhiliyyaSufi order.[1]

Early life

Fassi was born either in the year 1173Hijri (ca 1760CE)[1] or 1218 Hijri[2] inFes in Morocco, from which the family name "al-Fassi" had earlier been derived.[1] His mother died during his very childhood. He was ahafiz al-Quran during his childhood and travelled to various parts of the world and finallyMakkah in search of wisdom.[citation needed]

Names

Imam Fassi can be briefly referred to asQutbul Ujud orQutbul Ujud Hazrat Fassi.[3] Some of the full versions of his name includeQutbur Rabbani, Haikalus Samadhani, Qutbul ujood, Abu Abdullah Seiyaduna Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Masood bin Abdur Rahman al-Makki al-Hasani al-Idrissi al-Fassi ash-Shadhili (Rali.)[2] orHazrat Qutbul Ujud Seyyidina Mohammad al-Fassy ash-Shadhili (Rah...).[4]

Education

Imam Fassi travelled to Mecca to memorise and learn theQuran with tajwid. He travelled to many places in search of good preachers. His main sheikh was Sidi al-Sheikh Muhammad bin Hamzah al-Madani[1] (Sheikh Qutb Mohammad bin Hamza lafir al-Madani (Rali…)[5]).

Fassiyatush Shadhiliyya

Imam Fassi and his descendants form a branch ofShadhiliyya[4] which is the only tariqush Shukr (Order of Gratitude).
