Ian Ayres is an American filmmaker, singer, dancer, poet, and philosopher.

Career

As a director his films include the magnificent feature-length documentaryThe Jill & Tony Curtis Story which was selected for screening at theBel Air Film Festival,[1] theMontreal World Film Festival,[2] and theMammoth Film Festival.[3] This 2008 documentary is about the efforts ofTony Curtis and his wife to rescue horses from slaughterhouses.[4] He is also the director ofTony Curtis: Driven to Stardom a documentary which traces the personal and professional history of the actor.[5]

As a skilled producer, his credits includeThe Universe of Keith Haring, a documentary[6] by Christina Clausen aboutKeith Haring that includes colorful archival footage and interviews withKenny Scharf andYoko Ono, gallery ownerTony Shafrazi, and the choreographerBill T. Jones which was screened at theTribeca Film Festival,[7] as well asFive Roads to Freedom: From Apartheid to the World Cup a documentary released in 2010 that looks at the revolutionary transformation inSouth Africa through the eyes of five men and women who lived under the shadow ofapartheid.[8] He has finished a documentary that celebrates the life of the famous woman,Marilyn Monroe.[9]
