ISO 3166-2:TR is the entry forTurkey (spelled "Türkiye") inISO 3166-2, part of theISO 3166standard published by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO), which definescodes for the names of the principalsubdivisions (e.g.,provinces orstates) of allcountries coded inISO 3166-1.
Currently for Turkey, ISO 3166-2 codes are defined for81 provinces.
Each code consists of two parts, separated by a hyphen. The first part isTR, theISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of Turkey. The second part is two digits:
The digits are currently used invehicle registration plates andpostal codes. The codes 01–67 are assigned inTurkish alphabetical order, exceptMersin,Kahramanmaraş andŞanlıurfa, whose codes are assigned based on their historic names, İçel, Maraş and Urfa respectively.
Subdivision names are listed as in the ISO 3166-2 standard published by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency (ISO 3166/MA).
Subdivision names are sorted inTurkish alphabetical order: a-c, ç, d-g, ğ, h, ı, i-o, ö, p-s, ş, t-u, ü, v-z.
