ISO/IEC 8859-4:1998,Information technology — 8-bit single-byte coded graphic character sets — Part 4: Latin alphabet No. 4, is part of theISO/IEC 8859 series of ASCII-based standardcharacter encodings, first edition published in 1988. It is informally referred to asLatin-4 orNorth European. It was designed to coverEstonian,Latvian,Lithuanian,Greenlandic, andSámi. It has been largely superseded byISO/IEC 8859-10 andUnicode. Microsoft has assignedcode page 28594 a.k.a.Windows-28594 to ISO-8859-4 in Windows. IBM has assignedcode page 914 (CCSID 914)[2] to ISO 8859-4.[3]

ISO-8859-4 is theIANA preferred charset name for this standard when supplemented with theC0 and C1 control codes fromISO/IEC 6429. ISO-IR 205 (calledCode page 58258 by FreeDOS[4]) replaces the generic Currency Sign at 0xA4 with the Euro Sign.[5]
