Hunyuan County is acounty under the administration ofDatong City, in the northeast ofShanxi province, China.

During theSpring and Autumn period ofChinese history, present-day Hunyuan County formed part of theBaidistate ofDai[1][2] to the north of theZhou Kingdom. It was conquered by theZhao clan ofJin.
Under theHan,Guo County was established and placed underYanmen Commandery andPingshu County was established and placed underDai Commandery.[3] Pingshu was later merged with Guo County, which was placed inHengshan Commandery. During theJianwu era of theEastern Han, Guo County was renamed. During theThree Kingdoms,Wei restored the name Guo. This was changed to Guoshan County by theNorthern Wei, who placed it under the administration ofSi Prefecture.[3] Under theTang, it was placed inYun Prefecture.[3]
