American poet (born 1940)
Hugh Seidman (1940 – November 9, 2023) was an Americanpoet.
Seidman was born inBrooklyn, NY in 1940.[1] He was a graduate ofPolytechnic Institute of New York University,[2] where he studied underLouis Zukofsky.[3] His first book of poetry was published whenStanley Kunitz selected it as the winner of the 1970Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition.[3]
Seidman taught writing at theUniversity of Wisconsin,Yale University,Columbia University, theCollege of William and Mary,The New School.[4]
His work appeared inThe Brooklyn Rail,[5]Harper's,[6]The Paris Review,[7]Virginia Quarterly Review.[8]
Seidman died on November 9, 2023 after a long illness.[1]
