Hugh Edward Mark Osmond (born 24 March 1962) is an entrepreneur and businessman and was the founder ofPunch Taverns,[1] one of the UK's largest chains ofpublic houses.
Hugh Edward Mark Osmond was born on 24 March 1962,[2][3] the son of a doctor,[4] and educated atMerton College, Oxford[5] where he read medicine.[6]
Osmond went to the US in 1983 and worked in clubs for a while.[7] He then joined a smallinvestment bank inMadrid.[7] Returning to the UK he worked withLuke Johnson to launch the flotation ofPizzaExpress in 1993.[8] In 1997 he foundedPunch Taverns which was one of the UK's largest chains of pubs: he was chairman of Punch Taverns from 1997 to 2001.[8] In 2002 he became a leading partner inSun Capital Partners:[9] that vehicle secured a major investment inPearl Group in 2005.[10]
In 2001, he founded the London-based private equity firm,Sun Capital Partners Limited.[11] Nowadays he is related to several companies e.g. Morris United Limited, Alphabet Shares Limited, SCP Hotels Limited and Various Eateries Limited.
According to TheSunday Times Rich List in 2020 his net worth was estimated at £232 million.[12]
Osmond is a significant donor to theConservative Party.[13]
Osmond owns a shooting estate in Berkshire,[4] and maintains homes inMoulsford in Oxfordshire,Wadebridge in Cornwall, andMarylebone in west London.[1] He has three sons with his partner Lucy.[3]
