Hudsonelpidia is anextinctgenus of smallparvipelvianichthyosaur known fromBritish Columbia ofCanada.[1]
Hudsonelpidia is known only from theholotype, a nearly completeskeleton measuring less than 2 metres (6.6 ft) long.[2] It was collected in the Jewitt Spur locality from thePardonet Formation, dating to the middleNorian stage of theLate Triassic, about 210million years ago. It was found on the northern shore of thePeace Reach branch ofWilliston Lake.[1]Hudsonelpidia has a very stable position in manycladistic analyses.[3][4] The family Hudsonelpidiidae was named by McGowan and Motani in 2003 to include this genus.[5]
Hudsonelpidia was named by Chris McGowan in1995 and thetype species isHudsonelpidia brevirostris.[1]
