Huang Wei-che (Chinese:黃偉哲;pinyin:Huáng Wěizhé; born 26 September 1963)[1] is a Taiwanese politician andmedical researcher. He was a member of theLegislative Yuan from 2005 to 2018. Huang is the incumbentMayor ofTainan since 25 December 2018 after winning the title during the2018 local elections on 24 November 2018.[2][3]
Huang was born inTainan, Taiwan, as one of five children in a family of Taiwanese doctors. His father, Huang Huihuang, was a physician. Wei-che's sister,Huang Chih-hsien, is a political commentator and his younger brother, Su Tzu-yun (who took his mother's surname), is a researcher at the Taiwan Center for Security Studies atNational Chengchi University.[4]
Huang attendedTaipei Municipal Jianguo High School and graduated fromNational Taiwan University with aBachelor of Science (B.S.) inagronomy. He then pursued graduate studies in the United States atHarvard University, where he earned aMaster of Public Administration (M.P.A.) from theHarvard Kennedy School in 1993, and completed further advanced studies atYale University, earning aMaster of Public Health (M.P.H.) from theYale School of Medicine in 2001.[5][6][1]
Huang was a member of theLegislative Yuan from 2005 to 2018.[7]
