Howard Lee Williams (born December 4, 1936, inSpartanburg, South Carolina) is an American former professionalfootball player who was asafety. He played for theNational Football League'sGreen Bay Packers andSan Francisco 49ers, and for theAmerican Football League'sOakland Raiders.
Williams graduated from the School of Engineering and Architecture atHoward University in June 1963.[1] He majored in electronics.[1] He is also a veteran of theUnited States Air Force.[1]
Williams played for seven seasons and three different teams. As a rookie, he was on theGreen Bay Packers when they beat theNew York Giants 16–7 in the1962 NFL Championship Game. He played only seven games for the team the following season before being waived.[citation needed] He was immediately claimed by theWashington Redskins,[2] but was sent to theSan Francisco 49ers, which had a lower standing.
The following year, Williams joined theOakland Raiders, where he would spend the next six seasons, including three consecutive AFL title game appearances (1967,1968, and1969), along with an appearance inSuper Bowl II. In his career, he had 14 interceptions for 240 yards in 95 games played.
