Howard Augustus Taylor (November 23, 1865 – November 26, 1920) was atennis player from the United States.

Biography

Howard Taylor was born inNew York City on November 23, 1865.[1]

He reached the Challenge Round at theU.S. National Championships in1884 (beatingJoseph Clark,Percy Knapp andWilliam Thorne before losing toRichard Sears). Taylor reached the all comers final in1886 (beatingJames Dwight and Clark before losing toRobert Livingston Beeckman). He reached the all comers final in1887 (beatingOliver Campbell before losing toHenry Slocum).[2] Slocum beat him in the all comers final again in1888. Taylor also won the doubles title in 1889 alongside Slocum, finishing runner-up in 1886 and 1887.

Taylor attendedHarvard University, where he was anNCAA singles and doubles champion in 1883.[3] His occupation was a lawyer.[1][4]

He died at his home in New York City on November 26, 1920.[4]
