Hour Detroit is a monthly city magazine covering theMetro Detroit area. The magazine uses a glossy oversized format and features content on restaurants, arts and entertainment, and trends in fashion and décor. It began publication in 1996 and is a member of theCity and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA).[2][3][4][5]
Hour Detroit is the flagship publication forTroy, Michigan based Hour Media, Inc. It was founded in 1995 by John Balardo,Tom Hartle, and Stefan Wanczyk.
The company also publishesDBusiness,Detroit Design,Detroit Dining Guide,Michigan Makers,Detroit Health Guide,Metro Detroit Weddings,Metro Detroit Baby and Beyond andGive Detroit. Hour Media's also owns and operates the publications produced under Gemini Media. The publications under that portfolio areGrand Rapids Magazine,Grand Rapids Business Journal,Grand Rapids Baby and Beyond, andMichigan Blue.
In 2005 Hour Media establishedNew York Home, a bimonthly luxury home decor and design magazine. They acquiredAbsolute magazine, a publication focused on the luxury lifestyles of affluent New Yorkers, in 2006.[6] BothNew York Home andAbsolute magazine have ceased publication. In 2013, Hour Media acquiredGreenspring Media Group, publisher ofMinnesota Monthly, fromAmerican Public Media Group.[7] In 2017, Hour Media acquiredAtlanta,Cincinnati,Los Angeles, andOrange Coast fromEmmis Communications. Hour Media also acquiredPalm Beach Illustrated andNaples Illustrated.[8] In 2018, Hour Media acquiredGemini Media, owner ofGrand Rapids andMichigan Blue magazines and theGrand Rapids Business Journal.[9] IN 2019, Hour Media acquiredFlorida Design and Gulfstream Media, whose flagship wasGold Coast.[10][11]
