Holopterygius is anextinct genus of prehistoric eel-likecoelacanth known from theDevonian (Givetian–Frasnian) of Germany. Despite its specialized morphology and superficial dissimilarity to the usual Paleozoic coelacanthbody plan, it is one of the most basalactinistian fish.[1]
