Hollywood Congregational Church is a historic former church at 7065 W.Hollywood Boulevard inHollywood, California.
The Hollywood Congregational Church was organized on September 14, 1914, with 96 members. Their first home, Hollywood Congregational Church, was dedicated in October 1920, after a three-year effort and at a cost of $61,000 ($957,457 in2024). The church's sanctuary sat 500 at the time of its opening, and the church also featured a kitchen, serving room, andBoy Scout room.[1][2]
In 1935, the church added a second hall at a cost of $13,000 ($298,148 in2024), and a third and final hall was added in 1947. By 1948, the church had grown to more than 1000 members.[1]
In 1984, theHollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District was added to theNational Register of Historic Places, with Congregational Church listed as acontributing property in the district. At the time of its designation, the church was one of two institutional buildings on Hollywood Boulevard that exemplified the role of community organizations in Hollywood's development, the other being theHollywood Masonic Temple.[3][4]
From the 1986 to 1993, the building served as headquarters for theScreen Actors Guild.[5] In 1995, theChurch of Scientology purchased the Hollywood Congregational Church for $1.75 million ($3.61 million in2024), to house offices for theAssociation for Better Living and Education International.[6]
Hollywood Congregational Church is an L-shaped complex that consists of three buildings around a centralcourtyard. The main chapel features aMediterranean design that includes agable roof covered with red tile, and all three buildings are connected by coveredporticoes.[3]
