This woodrat species isendemic toMexico.

It is native from southernSinaloa toOaxaca states. It is found in interior México in the basins of theRío Balsas of centralPuebla andRío Tehuacán of northern Oaxaca.

Its naturalhabitat is subtropical or tropical dryshrubland.
