TheHobey Baker Award is an annual award given to the topNational Collegiate Athletic Association men'sice hockey player. It has been awarded 44 times. It is named for Hall of FamerHobey Baker, who played college hockey atPrinceton University and died shortly afterWorld War I.
The original statue for the award was commissioned and awarded by the Decathlon Athletic Club (now defunct) inBloomington, Minnesota. The model for the award trophy wasSteve Christoff, who played for theUniversity of Minnesota and in theNational Hockey League.[2]
