ShriHit Harivansh Mahaprabhu (another spelling, Hita Harivaṃśa, 1473 CE–1552 CE) is aBraj languagebhakti poet-sant and the founder ofRadha Vallabh Sampradaya.[1] His principal work is the hymnalHita-Caurāsī.[2]

Early life

Born in Baad Graam (modern-dayBad nearMathura on 11th Day of the Hindu month of Vaishakh (Ekadashi). He is considered as theincarnation of Lord Krishna's flute and beloved Sakhi(friendly companion) Hit sajni of ShriRadha.[3] A follower of Prema Bhakti and devotee ofRadharani as the ultimate Supreme Power.[4] He was the Guru ofJaimal Rathore, ruler ofMartha State and brother ofMirabai.[5][6] His father Vyasa Mishra was aGaur Brahmin and court astrologer in the court of the then emperor, some say it was Sikander Lodhi and others believe that it was Humayun[6]When he was just 7 years old, he jumped into a very deep well in Devvan and retrieved theShyam Varn Dwij Murli Dhari Shri Vigrah.[7]

Vrindavan

Mahaprabhu stayed in Devavan for 31 years. In the 32nd year of his age, he departed for Vrindavan with the inspiration of Shri Radha Rani. On the way, he had to take a night's rest in Chirathavalgram. There he duly married two daughters of a Brahmin as per the order of Shri Radharani received in the dream.

Works

Hith Harivansh's principal work is theHita-Caurāsī (a.k.a.Caurāsī Pad) — the eighty-four verses (hymns) inBraj Bhasha in praise of Radha.[2]

His other works include "Shri Rādhā Sudhā Nidhī Stotram", and "Hit Sphut Vānī".
