History

[edit]

The stations were established between 1997 and 1999, under theHot FM brand first used inQueensland. In 2004, Hot FM and sister stationsRadioWest were sold toMacquarie Regional RadioWorks.[1]

Under the ownership ofDMG Regional Radio, network stations broadcast a variety of local and networked programming, from network hubs based inBunbury,Albury and theGold Coast. Following the merger of Southern Cross Media withAustereo in February 2011, the Hot FM network – along withSea FM andStar FM regional counterparts – became more closely aligned with theToday Network, including networking programming from2Day FM inSydney andFox FM inMelbourne.

On 15 December 2016, as part of a national brand consolidation by parent companySouthern Cross Austereo, the station was merged into theHit Network.[2]

In 2020, Southern Cross Austereo purchased Red Wave Media fromSeven West Media.[3] On 16 March 2020, the Red FM branded frequencies changed its branding to become part of the Hit Network.[4]

Up until December 2024, there was a dedicated regional breakfast show for the regional Hit stations. Since January 2025, theMix 94.5 breakfast show has been broadcast throughout the state.[5]
