Hina Sugita (杉田 妃和,Sugita Hina; born 31 January 1997) is a Japanese professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forAngel City FC of theNational Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and theJapan national team.

Club career

After graduating from high school, Sugita joinedNadeshiko League clubINAC Kobe Leonessa in 2015. She debuted as a midfielder in 2015. She became a regular player in 2016 and was selected for the Best Young player award in the2016 season.[2]

On 26 January 2022, Sugita joined thePortland Thorns on a three-year deal.[3] She won the2022 NWSL Championship with the club.[4]

On 30 September 2025, Thorns traded Sugita toAngel City FC in exchange forM.A. Vignola and $600,000 in intra-league transfer funds.[5]

International career

In September 2012, when Sugita was 15 years old, she was selected forJapan's U-17 national team for2012 U-17 Women's World Cup. She played all 4 matches and scored 2 goals.[6] In 2013, she played at the2013 AFC U-16 Women's Championship, which Japan won for the second time in a row. She also scored 6 goals and was selected as the tournament MVP. In 2014, she was selected for Japan's U-17 team for the2014 U-17 Women's World Cup. She played 5 matches as captain, scoring 5 goals and leading Japan to its first championship, as well as winning the tournament's Golden Ball (MVP).[6] In November 2016, she was selected forJapan's U-20 national team for the2016 U-20 Women's World Cup. She played all 6 matches and Japan won the third place. She was also selected Golden Ball award.[6]

On 2 August 2018, Sugita debuted for theJapanese national team as substitute midfielder in the 72nd minute againstAustralia.[7]

On 10 May 2019, Sugita was included in the 23-player squad for the2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.[8]

On 18 June 2021, she was included in the Japan squad for the2020 Summer Olympics.[9]

On 13 June 2023, she was included in the 23-player squad for theFIFA Women's World Cup 2023.[10]
