Himanshu Malik is an Indian actor, screenwriter and producer known for his works inBollywood.[1] He started his acting career with the film,Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996) and gained recognition with his portrayal of Abhigyan, a wealthy Canadian industrialist in the 2001 romanceTum Bin.[2] His other notable work includesJungle (2000),Khwahish (2003) andRog (2005).[3][4] His first film as a writer, director and producer,Chitrakut was released on 20 May 2022.[5]

Career

Himanshu began his career in music videos; most notable among them wasNusrat Fateh Ali Khan'sAfreen Afreen withLisa Ray.[6] He later appeared inSonu Nigam'sDeewane Hoke Hum withSandali Sinha.[7]

He made his film debut with a role inMira Nair'sKama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996) and also appeared inRam Gopal Varma'sJungle in 2000. However, his big break came as a supporting actor inTum Bin (2001), leading to work in several small films. His next feature wasKhwahish (2003), playing the lead oppositeMallika Sherawat, notable for its sensuality and kissing scenes.[1]

In 2012, he wrote and directed short filmQ.E.D..[7] He made his feature film directorial debut withChitrakut in 2022.[5][8]

Personal life

Malik is married to Komal and the couple has a daughter, Athena.[9]

In 2013, Malik's naked photos were splashed across several mainstream and porn websites. Malik mentioned in an interview withDNA that "They're mine all right. And I don't deny them at all. I had shot them with a well-known photographer when I was 21 ... when I came to Mumbai from Delhi things weren't easy for me. I was propositioned and treated like a sex object everywhere ... I don't think about it. The pictures are part of my wild past when I did many unthinkable things."[10]

In 2022, he revealed in an interview withNavbharat Times that, during his early days in the film industry, he was propositioned to stay in the news,[10] and that the incident left him shocked.[11]
