TheHillsdale Public Schools is a communitypublicschool district that serves students inpre-kindergarten througheighth grade inHillsdale, inBergen County, in theU.S. state ofNew Jersey.[3]

As of the 2023–24 school year, the district, comprised of three schools, had an enrollment of 1,149 students and 126.3 classroom teachers (on anFTE basis), for astudent–teacher ratio of 9.1:1.[1]

Public school students inninth throughtwelfth grades attendPascack Valley High School along with students from neighboringRiver Vale. The school is part of thePascack Valley Regional High School District, which also serves students fromMontvale andWoodcliff Lake atPascack Hills High School.[4][5] As of the 2023–24 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 955 students and 93.8 classroom teachers (on anFTE basis), for astudent–teacher ratio of 10.2:1.[6]

History

BeforePascack Valley High School opened in September 1955, students from Hillsdale (along with those from Montvale and Woodcliff Lake) had attendedPark Ridge High School as part ofsending/receiving relationships.[7][8]

The district had been classified by theNew Jersey Department of Education as being inDistrict Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by commonsocioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[9]

Board of education

The district'sboard of education, comprised of five members, sets policy and oversees the fiscal and educational operation of the district through its administration. As a Type II school district, the board's trustees are elected directly by voters to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with one to two seats up for election each year held (since 2012) as part of the November general election. The board appoints a superintendent to oversee the district's day-to-day operations and a business administrator to supervise the business functions of the district.[23][24][25]
