Hillandale is anunincorporated area andcensus-designated place located inMontgomery andPrince George's counties,Maryland, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 5,774.[3][4] Hillandale is contained between the Prince George's / Montgomery County line to the east, theAnacostia River to the west, McCeney Avenue to the north, and D.C.'sCapital Beltway to the south. It borders the communities ofAdelphi,Avenel,White Oak andBeltsville.
Hillandale is part of the very large postal designation ofSilver Spring.
According to theUnited States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.3 km2), all land.[5]
In Montgomery County, Hillandale is bordered by theSilver Spring CDP to the south (across theCapital Beltway), theFour Corners CDP to the west (across theNorthwest Branch Anacostia River), and theWhite Oak CDP to the north. In Prince George's County, Hillandale is bordered by theBeltsville CDP to the east (across thePaint Branch) and theAdelphi CDP to the south (across the Capital Beltway).[6]

As of thecensus[10] of 2000, there were 3,054 people, 1,087 households, and 846 families residing in the area. The population density was 2,465.6 inhabitants per square mile (952.0/km2). There were 1,110 housing units at an average density of 896.2 per square mile (346.0/km2). The racial makeup of the area was 55.40%White, 25.57%African American, 0.46%Native American, 9.66%Asian, 0.03%Pacific Islander, 5.86% fromother races, and 3.01% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 11.39% of the population.
There were 1,087 households, out of which 27.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.1% weremarried couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 16.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the area, the population was spread out, with 20.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 29.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.1 males.
The median income for a household in the area was $75,650, and the median income for a family was $88,802. Males had a median income of $46,107 versus $36,724 for females.
