Hideo Usui (臼井 日出男,Usui Hideo; born 3 January 1939) is a retiredJapanesepolitician of theLiberal Democratic Party, who served as a member of theHouse of Representatives, the lower house of theNational Diet. He served asMinister of Justice from 1999 to 2000.

A native ofChiba city and a graduate ofChuo University,[1] he was elected for the first time in 1980 after an unsuccessful run in 1979. He served until losing his seat in the2003 general election. He regained the seat in the2005 general election, and retired after the2009 general election. In 1996 he served asDirector General of the Japan Defense Agency.
His eldest son,Shoichi Usui, is also a politician. He was elected to the House of Councillorsin 2022, representing theChiba at-large district.[2]
