Transvaal political party

Het Volk (The People) was aTransvaalpolitical party, established in May 1904[1]: 53  under the leadership ofLouis Botha and his deputyJan Smuts.

Upon the creation of theUnion of South Africa in May 1910, it merged withAfrikaner Bond, theSouth African Party, and theOrangia Unie, the dominant political parties of theCape Colony andOrange River Colony (formerly theOrange Free State), creating the pan-UnionSouth African Party.[1]: 54
