Hervin Ongenda (born 24 June 1995) is a French professionalfootballer who plays as anattacking midfielder or awinger forLiga I clubBotoșani.

Club career

The French newspaperLe Parisien described Ongenda as the best of a generation of French footballers which also includedKingsley Coman,Anthony Martial andAdrien Rabiot.[1] Ongenda made his debut forParis Saint-Germain on 6 January 2013, in aCoupe de France 4–3 victory overArras.

On 3 August 2013, he featured in theTrophée des Champions againstBordeaux, coming on forJavier Pastore in the 73rd minute and scoring theequaliser eight minutes later as PSG went on to win 2–1.[2] He registered his firstLigue 1 match at 9 August, in a 1–1 draw atMontpellier. Ongenda was loaned for the2014–15 season to fellow league sideBastia.[3] Upon his return in thecapital, he scored his first Ligue 1 goal on 22 November 2015, in a 2–1 defeat ofLorient.[4]

Ongenda joined Dutch sideZwolle in January 2017; he only played three games for Zwolle in a five-month period despite being signed for a 3.5-year deal.[1] On 12 March 2018, having not made an official appearance in more than a year, he signed forSegunda División B sideReal Murcia.[5] After playing two games over a two-month period, he again left the club.[1]

On 17 July 2018, Ongenda agreed a contract with Romanian teamFC Botoșani.[6] Ten days later, he made hisLiga I debut in a 2–0 home victory againstHermannstadt. On 13 January 2020, he signed with ItalianSerie B clubChievo until the end of the2019–20 season, with an option to extend the contract until 2022.[7] Ongenda returned to Botoșani in September 2020, after failing to make an impact during his stint in Italy.

International career

Born in France, Ongenda is of DR Congolese descent. He is a former youth international for France, having played up to theFrance U21s.[8]
