Herd Point (59°28′S27°17′W / 59.467°S 27.283°W /-59.467; -27.283) is a point which forms the west side ofFerguson Bay at the south end ofThule Island, in theSouth Sandwich Islands. It was roughly charted by a Russian expedition underFabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen in 1819–20. It was recharted in 1930 byDiscovery Investigations personnel on theDiscovery II and named forR.D. Herd ofFerguson Brothers,Port Glasgow, Scotland, the builders of theDiscovery II.[1]
