Henry Carl Waechter (born February 13, 1959) is an American former professionalfootball player who was adefensive end anddefensive tackle for six seasons in theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theNebraska Cornhuskers and was selected in the seventh round of the1982 NFL draft.

He is a two-timeSuper Bowl champion, having wonSuper Bowl XX as a member of theChicago Bears, and was retroactively awarded a ring by theWashington Redskins, who went on to winSuper Bowl XXII.

Biography

Waechter was born inEpworth, Iowa.[1] He playedcollege football forWaldorf College, where he was an All-American, before transferring to theUniversity of Nebraska–Lincoln, with his younger brother Kevin serving as his teammate at the latter.[2][3] He was selected in the seventh round of the1982 NFL draft.[4]

Waechter played for theChicago Bears in 1982, and from 1984 to 1986. He played for theBaltimore / Indianapolis Colts in 1983 and 1984, and theWashington Redskins in 1987.

Waechter is a member of the1985 Bears that wonSuper Bowl XX.[5] He scored the game's final points on a sack ofNew England Patriots quarterbackSteve Grogan in the end zone for a safety. In 2018, Waechter was awarded aSuper Bowl ring for playing one game for the Redskins in 1987, the year they wonSuper Bowl XXII.[6]
