Hen Island is anisland located close to thesouth-western coast ofTasmania, Australia. The 7.6-hectare (0.029 sq mi) island is part of theMaatsuyker Islands Group, and comprises part of theSouthwest National Park and theTasmanian WildernessWorld Heritage Site.[1][2]
The island's highest point is 75 metres (246 ft)above sea level.
The island is part of the Maatsuyker Island GroupImportant Bird Area, identified as such byBirdLife International because of its importance as a breeding site for seabirds.[3] Recorded breedingseabird andwader species are thelittle penguin (90 pairs),short-tailed shearwater (12,000 pairs),fairy prion (27,000 pairs),Pacific gull andsooty oystercatcher. Themetallic skink is present.[2]
