Family of heterotrophic flagellates, in the group Hemimastigophora
Spironematellidae (previously known as Spironemidae)[ 1] family ofheterotrophic flagellates , in the groupHemimastigophora . They vary in size and shape from theellipsoid Hemimastix amphikineta vermiform Spironematella terricola cilia , calledkineties .[ 2]
Phylogenomic analysis shows that Hemimastigophora are a distinct and ancient lineage ofeukaryotic organisms, forming a possible sisterclade to the supergroupDiaphoretickes .[ 3] [ 4]
