Helmuth Vetter (21 March 1910 inRastenberg – 2 February 1949) was anSS-Hauptsturmführer and aNaziwar criminal.
Vetter was a doctor at theAuschwitz extermination camp, appointed chief doctor byReichsführer-SSHeinrich Himmler. He joined other doctors (such asHans König,Heinz Thilo, andFritz Klein) in the task of choosing employableJews to operate the industrial machines and sending others to thegas chambers. He also carried medical experiments on prisoners, involving phenol injections[1] As paid retainer ofIG Farben, Vetter would also deliberately infect prisoners in Auschwitz, Dachau andGusen to carry out medical experiments.[2] After the war, Vetter was found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to death. He was hanged in the prison ofLandsberg am Lech.[3]
