Heliconius doris, theDoris longwing orDoris[1] is aspecies ofbutterfly in the familyNymphalidae. It is known for being a polymorphic species which participates in variousMüllerian mimicry rings throughoutCentral America and theAmazon rainforest. It is a species of special interest in biological science for the genetic basis and role ofpolymorphism (biology) in ecology and evolution.
It is commonly found from sea level to 1200 metres in forest clearings.[2]
The larvae primarily feed ongranadilla species. Adults feed on nectar fromLantana flowers, with the females also collecting pollen fromPsiguria andPsychotia flowers.[2]
