Heineken Oud Bruin (Dutch pronunciation:[ˈɦɛinəkənʌutˈbrœyn,-kəʔʌut-]; English:Heineken Old Brown) is a Dutch-style oud bruinbeer produced by theDutchbrewing companyHeineken. It shares only the name with the stronger, more acidicoud bruin beers of Belgium, which are a different style. It is available only in theNetherlands[2]
The beer isbrewed fromwater, barley malt, andhops usingtop-fermentation.[1][3][4] Its color isdark brown or 120EBC and its taste is mildlysweet or 14IBU.[1][2] The brewer states that the beer derives its color and taste from the dark malt and hops, but the bottle label statescaramel color is also added and the beer is sweetened withsugar.[1][2][3]
Heineken Oud Bruin has 2.5%alcohol by volume (abv).[1] In 1977, the abv of Heineken Oud Bruin was reduced from 3.5% to 2.5%.[5] Generally, oud bruin beers in Netherlands have 2.5 to 3.5% abv, much lower thanlagers with around 5% abv.[4][6]
Other Dutch beer brands also have anoud bruin variety, such asAlfa Oud Bruin,[7]Brand Oud Bruin,[8] andGulpener Oud Bruin.[9]
