Heaðolaf (Proto-Norse *Haþulaibaz)[1] was a member of aScandinavian clan named theWulfings, which according to theGermanic heroic legend ofBeowulf ruled theGeatishpetty kingdom ofÖstergötland.
All that is known of Heaðolaf is that he was slain byEcgþeow, the father of Beowulf. Reportedly, his powerful family demanded too high aweregild from Ecgþeow's clan, theWægmundings, so Ecgþeow was banished and had to seek refuge with the Danes. The Danish kingHroðgar paid the weregild and the matter was settled.
