Haidar Abu Bakr al-Attas (Arabic:حيدر أبو بكر العطاس; born 5 April 1939) is a Yemeni politician. He was appointedPrime Minister of Yemen byPresidentAli Abdullah Saleh when thePeople's Democratic Republic of Yemen andYemen Arab Republic united in 1990 to form present-dayYemen. Al-Attas served until 1994.[1] He is a member of theYemeni Socialist Party.

Before unification, al-Attas served asPrime Minister (1985–1986) andChairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Council (President of people's Democratic Republic of Yemen) (1986–1990) in the southern PDRY.[2]

WhenAden in southern Yemen seceded in May 1994, al-Attas served as the Prime Minister of the secessionistDemocratic Republic of Yemen until the rebellion ended less than two months later.[2]
