Hawthorne is a crater onMercury. It has a diameter of 120 kilometers.[1] Its name was adopted by theInternational Astronomical Union in 1979. Hawthorne is named for the American novelistNathaniel Hawthorne, who lived from 1804 to 1864.[2] The crater was first imaged byMariner 10 in 1974.[3]
The craterHals is south of Hawthorne. To the northeast isMichelangelo, and to the northwest isShelley.
