Havøysund Church (Norwegian:Havøysund kirke) is aparish church of theChurch of Norway inMåsøy Municipality inFinnmark county,Norway. It is located in the village ofHavøysund on the island ofHavøya. It is one of the churches for the Måsøyparish which is part of theHammerfest prosti (deanery) in theDiocese of Nord-Hålogaland.[1]
Like most other churches in Finnmark, Havøysund church was burned down by the Germans during theevacuation of Finnmark in 1944. The new church was built of whitewashed concrete and dark wooden timbers in along church style in 1960 using plans drawn up by thearchitectEsben Poulsson. The altarpiece and pulpit decoration were painted by the artistTerje Grøstad. The church seats about 300 people.[2][3][4]
