Hatzav (Hebrew:חָצָב,lit. 'Squill') is amoshav in centralIsrael. Located onHighway 40 betweenGedera andBe'er Sheva, it covers 3,200dunams and falls under the jurisdiction ofBe'er Tuvia Regional Council. In 2023 it had a population of 1,600.[1]
The moshav was founded in 1949 byrefugees fromTripoli inLibya,[2] includingBen-Zion Halfon, later a member of theKnesset. It was founded on the former lands of the depopulatedPalestinian village ofAl-Masmiyya al-Kabira.[3]
