Hathor (Coptic:Ϩⲁⲑⲱⲣ,Hathōr), also known asAthyr (Ancient Greek:Ἀθύρ,Athýr) andHatur[1] (Arabic:هاتور), is the thirdmonth of the ancientEgyptian andCoptic calendars. It lies between November 10 and December 9 of theGregorian calendar.
The month of Hathor is also the third month of the season ofAkhet (Inundation) inAncient Egypt, when theNile floods historically covered the land ofEgypt; they have not done so since the construction of theHigh Dam atAswan.
The name of the month comes fromHathor, one of the most important goddesses in ancient Egypt. Festivals in her honor are thought to have taken place throughout the month.[2]
