Overview

As a consequence of the orders of theDelimitation Commission, Hasnabad Assembly constituency ceases to exist from 2011. Prior to 2011 Basirhat had one assembly constituency. From 2011 it will have two constituenciesBasirhat Dakshin Assembly constituency andBasirhat Uttar Assembly constituency.[1]

It was part ofBasirhat (Lok Sabha constituency).[2]

Gautam Deb ofCPI(M) won the 96 Hasnabad seat defeating Rafiqul Islam Mondal ofTrinamool Congress in 2006[16] and 2001,[15] and ofCongress in 1996,[14] Anath Bandhu Mitra of Congress in 1991[13] and Ananta Roy of Congress in 1987.[12] Amiya Bhusan Banerjee of CPI(M) defeated Sekendar Kayal of MUL in 1982[11] and Mollah Tasmatullah in 1977.[10][17]

Molla Tasmatulla of Congress won in 1972[9] and 1971.[8] Abdur Razzaque Khan ofCPI won in 1969.[7] H.N.Mazumdar ofBangla Congress won in 1967.[6] Dinabandhu Das of Congress won in1962.[5] Hemanta Kumar Ghoshal of CPI and Ramkrishna Mondal of Congress won the Hasnabad joint seat in1957.[4] Inindependent India’s first election in 1951, Dinesh Chandra Sen of Congress and Ram Krishna Mondal of Congress won the Hasnabad joint seat.[3]
