In May 2020, several racist and misogynistTwitter posts made by Sawyer between 2009 and 2014 resurfaced after he made comments about theBlack Lives Matter movement.[12] He issued an apology, saying, "My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humor, were hurtful, and unacceptable. I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply." Sawyer deleted his Twitter account soon thereafter.[13] A week later, he was fired from his role inThe Flash,[13] and has not worked in the entertainment industry since.[14]
