Harry Potter (born 15 December 1997) is arugby union player for theWestern Force, an Australian team inSuper Rugby. Potter plays on the wing, fullback and centre positions. Potter is eligible to represent bothAustralia andEngland at international level. Between 2020 and 2023, he played forLeicester Tigers where he was aPremiership Rugby champion in2022. In October 2024, he received a call up to the Australian national team for the upcoming Autumn Internationals tour of the UK and Ireland.

Early life

Potter was born inWimbledon in theSouth Londonborough ofMerton,England.[3][4] Potter moved toBristol in his youth before moving again, this time abroad toMelbourne,Victoria,Australia when he was 10 years old.[citation needed] He played for Brighton Grammar School in his youth career.[citation needed] Contrary to popular belief, he was not named after theHarry Potter book series as that came out 6 months before his birth but his parents selected the name independently.[5]

Club career

In August 2019, Potter was announced to have been included in the fullMelbourne Rebels squad for the2020 season after playing with theMelbourne Rising in theNational Rugby Championship.[6][7]

Potter signed forPremiership Rugby sideLeicester Tigers ahead of the 2020–21 season.[8] He made his debut on 22 August 2020 againstBath atWelford Road.[9][10] He started the2022 Premiership Rugby final as Tigers beatSaracens 15–12.[11] On 25 May 2023, it was announced that Potter had left Leicester to pursue an opportunity in Australia. On 1 June 2023 he was confirmed as signing forWestern Force.[12]

In July 2025, Potter signed with theNew South Wales Waratahs on a two-year deal, beginning in the2026 season.[13]

International career

In October 2024, Potter was named in the Australia squad forAutumn Nations Series by head coachJoe Schmidt.[14] In November 2024, he went to make his debut againstScotland, scoring a try as his side went on to lose 27–13.[15]
