Harold Mayot (born 4 February 2002) is a French professionaltennis player.[2] He has a career highATP singles ranking of world No. 103 achieved on 14 October 2024. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of world No. 255 achieved on 16 September 2024.[3]
As a junior, Mayot reached his highest ranking of number 1 in the world in the combined singles and doublesITF junior ranking system, which he reached on 3 February 2020 and sustained to end the year as the number one male juniors player in the world.[4] This was highlighted by a winning the championship at the2020 Australian Open where he defeated compatriotArthur Cazaux in straight sets6–4, 6–1.[5]
Mayot made his ATP main draw debut at the2020 Open 13 simultaneously in both single and doubles when he was granted a wildcard entry into both draws partnering compatriotArthur Cazaux. They were defeated in the first round byNicolas Mahut andVasek Pospisil in straight sets. In singles, he was also defeated in the first round by veteran compatriotGilles Simon in straight sets.
Pairing with Cazaux again, they were given a wildcard entry into the main doubles draw of the2020 French Open but would again be defeated in the first round byŁukasz Kubot andMarcelo Melo in straight sets. At the same tournament Mayot received also a wildcard into the singles main draw, and was defeated byAlejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Mayot received a wildcard for the qualifying competition at the2022 Australian Open.In July, Mayot reached his firstATP Challenger Tour final as a qualifier at the2022 Tampere Open in Finland, losing againstZsombor Piros. As a result, he reached a new career-high singles ranking of No. 304 and also a doubles ranking of No. 450 on 25 July 2022. He reached the top 250 at world No. 248 on 19 September 2022.
Following a semifinal showing at the2023 Open Aix Provence as a lucky loser where he beat three top 100 players then lost to fifth seedAndy Murray,[6] he reached the top 200 in the rankings on 8 May 2023.
In June, Mayot won his first doubles match at the2023 French Open partnering withJonathan Eysseric, having failed to qualify in the singles. In July, Mayot made hisWimbledon debut as a qualifier, only his second career Major singles appearance.,[7] where he recorded his first singles Grand Slam win by beating fellow countrymanBenjamin Bonzi in the first round.[8] He later made his debut at theUS Open qualifying, where he lost in the first round.
In September, Mayot reached his second career final on theATP Challenger Tour inMallorca losing to second seedHamad Medjedovic in the final. Later in September, Mayot reached his first doubles final on theATP Challenger Tour inSaint-Tropez partnering withJonathan Eysseric, losing in the final toDan Added andAlbano Olivetti.
In November, ranked No. 176, Mayot qualified at his home tournament inMetz, France. He reached the main draw as a qualifier where he defeatedYosuke Watanuki in the first round[9] andGrégoire Barrère in the second to reach his first quarterfinal on theATP Tour.[10] He lost to fourth seedUgo Humbert in the quarterfinals.[11][12]
Following the2024 Australian Open where he made it to the third round of qualifying for the first time at this Major, he reached the top 150 at No. 144 on 29 January 2024. At the2024 Open Sud de France, he reached the quarterfinals defeating two compatriotsLucas Pouille andBenoît Paire.
He made his Masters debut at the2024 Miami Open after qualifying into the main draw with wins overArthur Cazaux by retirement andDavid Goffin.[13]
In April, as the top seed Mayot reached the final of theChallenger tournament inBarletta, Italy, defeatingJacopo Berrettini before losing to second seedDamir Džumhur in the final. As a result, he reached the top 120 in the rankings on 8 April 2024.[14]
He qualified for his first ATP 500 tournament at the2024 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. He also entered the2024 Italian Open as a lucky loser.
In June, Mayot reached his first Challenger final on grass inIlkley, losing to fourth seedDavid Goffin in the final.[15] In September, he reached his fifthChallenger final inOrléans, losing toJacob Fearnley in the final.[16]
In April, Mayot won his firstMasters 1000 match inMadrid, entering the main draw as a qualifier. In the first round, he defeated fellow countrymanCorentin Moutet.[17] He lost in the second round toFrancisco Cerundolo.[18]
In July, Mayot reached the final in both the single and doubles tournament at theZug Open, partnering withGeoffrey Blancaneaux in doubles. He lost toLukáš Klein in the single final. The doubles final was cancelled because of weather.[19]
In October, Mayot reached his seventh careerChallenger final at theSuzhou Open, losing to top seedYoshihito Nishioka in the final.[20]
