Hans W. Geißendörfer (born 6 April 1941 inAugsburg) is a German film director and producer.
Director ofThe Glass Cell (1978, starringBrigitte Fossey), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film,[1] and 16 other films (The Wild Duck starringJean Seberg;The Magic Mountain starringRod Steiger;Justice), he is creator of TV-SeriesLindenstraße (since 1985).
In 1970, Geißendörfer won the Film Award in Gold at theDeutscher Filmpreis for Best New Direction for his first filmJonathan.[2]In 1971 he directed the TV filmCarlos, which starredGottfried John andAnna Karina.[3] His 1976 filmThe Sternstein Manor was entered into the10th Moscow International Film Festival.[4] In 1992 his filmGudrun was entered into the42nd Berlin International Film Festival where it won an Honourable Mention.[5] His dramaSnowland (2005, starringJulia Jentsch andThomas Kretschmann) won the Special Grand Prize at the Montréal World Film Festival.
The German director Hana Geißendörfer is his daughter.
