Hanco Kolk (born 11 March 1957,Den Helder) is a Dutchcartoonist andcomics artist. He is best known for his collaborations withPeter de Wit, with who he madeGilles de Geus andS1NGLE

Kolk made his debut in the Dutchunderground comics magazineTante Leny presenteert!.[1] In 1980 he was one of the founders ofStudio Arnhem, a collective of comics artists and writers.[2] After working anonymous for the magazineDonald Duck for several years he went to the magazineEppo, where he made the humoristic historical adventure comics seriesGilles de Geus together withPeter de Wit from 1983 to 2003.[3] Kolk and De Wit often work together and have created comics such as thephoto novelMannetje & Mannetje (Sidekicks in English; 1988), which was adapted into a TV sketch show forVPRO in 1989[4] and thegag-a-day comicS1NGLE (2001), which was also adapted for television as a sitcom onNET 5. The men also presented an educational TV documentary series about drawing comics and cartoons forTeleac in 1992.[5] They also made a comics adaptation of the TV seriesLaat Maar Zitten forVARA TV Magazine. In 1988 they founded their own publishing companyDe Plaatjesmaker.[6]
A solo creation by Kolk is his 1992 stripMeccano, which had tremendous success in France. This abstract and stylistic comic set in a fictional country loosely based onMonaco, satirizes the rich and famous.[7] andInspecteur Netjes (1989) forSjors and Sjimmie Magazine (which later becameSjosji Striparazzi)[8] It was originally published inL'Echo des Savanes and won Kolk enormous acclaim.
He also created thegag-a-day comicCor Daad in 1984 until 1998 for the Dutch children's magazineTaptoe.[9] andInspecteur Netjes (1989) forSjors and Sjimmie Magazine (which later becameSjosji Striparazzi)[10] In 2006 he drew a series of cartoons for the magazineThe New Yorker. In the 2000s he made several autobiographical comics, many about travels to foreign countries like his journalistic voyage fromIstanbul toBagdad in 2010 with Dutch authorArnon Grunberg.[11]
Kolk also writes comics series for other artists, such asFalco & Donjon for Uco Egmond,De Muziekbuurters for Ben Westervoorde,De Familie Sloterdijk for Michiel de Jong andDe Kleine Dood for Hans van Oudenaarden.[12] He is also active as a painter[13] and restyled the children's section in the Academic Hospital inMaastricht.[14] He also designed the album cover ofSpinvis' recordTot ziens, Justine Keller.
Kolk is the winner of the 1996Stripschapprijs.[15]
