Historic building in Fez, Morocco

Hammam al-Mokhfiya (also spelledMukhfiyya[1] orMakhfia[2]) is a historichammam (bathhouse) in themedina (old city) ofFes,Morocco. It is located in the neighbourhood of the same name (al-Mokhfiya), south of Place R'cif.[3][4] Based on its similarities in layout and decoration with other historic hammams in the region, it has been dated to the mid-14th century, during the reign of theMarinidsultanAbu Inan (ruled 1348–1358) or slightly after.[3] The hammam is richly decorated with carvedstucco and carved wood in its changing room, as well aszellij tiling in its steam rooms.[5] The hammam was part of thehabous (endowment) of the Qarawiyyin Mosque.[6]
