This gene is a member of theAntp homeobox family and encodes anuclear protein with ahomeoboxDNA-binding domain. It is included in acluster of homeobox B genes located onchromosome 17. The encoded protein functions as a sequence-specifictranscription factor that is involved in development. Intracellular or ectopicexpression of this protein expandshematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in vivo and in vitro, making it a potential candidate for therapeutic stem cell expansion.[7]
